Steve Morris Named Executive Director

Morris to Steer Club as It Looks Toward its 100th Anniversary

Glendale, Wisconsin. June 1, 2022. Bavarian United Soccer Club (BUSC) welcomes Steve Morris as its new Executive Director. Morris was previously the Academy Director at FC United in Glenview, Illinois and brings his nearly forty years of experience as a player and coach to BUSC, starting officially on July 1, 2022.

“It is with immense pleasure and pride that I have accepted Bavarian United’s offer to become the club’s new Executive Director. I would like to thank the BUSC Board of Directors, led by Tim Posnanski, as well as the club’s current leadership team for entrusting me with guiding this distinguished club,” Morris said. “Having experienced 15 years as a professional player and coach in Milwaukee, I witnessed the staunch support for the sport of soccer in the community and in the State of Wisconsin. Bavarian United is one of the oldest clubs in the country, rich with history, including legendary alumni and has unparalleled success both on and off the pitch. As BUSC approaches its centennial benchmark, it is my privilege to build upon the organization's wonderful history and tradition and to forge a new era of excellence for the “world’s most beautiful game” well into the future.”

“From the outset of our discussions, it was clear that Steve checked all of the boxes we were looking for in our Executive Director,” said Tim Posnanski, BUSC Co-President. “Steve has deep roots in the Milwaukee area, years of experience coaching at the highest levels of the youth game in the United States, a vision for more fully integrating our recreational program into the club, a passion for growing our girls’ program, and a willingness to take the reins of this historic club and build momentum as we head towards our 100th Anniversary. We are excited to see how all areas of the Club benefit from Steve’s leadership.”

BUSC began the search for a new Executive Director in early spring after reorganizing its organizational chart upon the departure of Kyle Zenoni to University of Massachusetts-Lowell, and the appointments of Tom Zaiss and Bob Spielmann as General Manager and MLS Next Director. respectively.

“I want to applaud Bavarian United Soccer Club for the appointment of Steve Morris as Executive Director. He is a great choice as he knows the game, the region and has a comprehensive understanding of youth soccer. Most importantly, all Bavarian players will benefit from Steve’s approach and thrive in a positive development atmosphere,” said Bob Gansler, long-time Bavarian player and coach and Head Coach of the 1990 United States World Cup Team.

Morris attended Syracuse University where he is still the school’s all-time scoring leader. Morris was a two-time Big East Player of the Year and is one of 22 college soccer players to have scored 40 goals and registered 40 assists in his career. Professionally, he played in the Canadian Soccer League, the NPSL and MISL. Morris played for the Milwaukee Wave from 1992 to 2001, winning 4 MISL Championships. The Wave retired Morris’s number 11 jersey in 2002.

“Congratulations to both Bavarian United and their new Executive Director Steve Morris. BUSC brings a long history of success in Wisconsin, nationally and internationally. The addition of Steve Morris will only enhance that success. After coaching Steve for many years, I am thrilled that he is returning to Milwaukee. Steve’s passion, commitment and dedication to excellence is second to none and will lead to a fantastic experience for all of the coaches, players and parents at Bavarian United,” said Keith Tozer, Commissioner Major Arena Soccer League, former head coach Milwaukee Wave and U.S. Futsal Men’s National Team.

On top of his distinguished playing career, Steve has an equally impressive leadership and coaching resume. Steve holds a USSF A license and served as the Director of Coaching at Brookfield Soccer Association, the Head Coach of the Chicago Storm, and the Technical Director for the Chicago Fire Juniors West. More recently, Steve served as the Academy Director at FC United, where he led the MLS Next teams and oversaw the Girls Academy program.

“Steve Morris is a very accomplished Director of Coaching. His Club and his teams have competed favorably in one of the toughest youth soccer markets in the entire country. Bavarian United Soccer Club and the entire Milwaukee youth soccer community will greatly benefit from his experience,” said Dale Schilly, St. Louis City SC Academy Director.

As Executive Director, Morris will oversee the Club’s strategic growth over the next several years, focusing on developing the BUSC coaching staff so that players maximize their potential at all ages and levels. Morris will oversee all soccer related activities and the growth of the Club, including the oversight of every player, team, division, coach and platform throughout BUSC. Morris will assist in defining, evolving and deploying the Club’s soccer culture that values, incentivizes and prioritizes player development.
